For the last couple months, I’ve been writing a Centering Thought on the back of my left hand.  I started this first to have a tangible reminder of that thought throughout my day; because, too often, with the stress, confusion, and busy-ness of the day, I would forget the thought and feel that it was lost to me.

Of course, I realized that others would see this.

That thought practically stopped me.  But, this year and last have been about inspired action; about creative expression; and, about doing what I know to do, even when I worry others won’t approve or understand.

Some of my colleagues are intrigued.  They will ask me what I have written, and I’ll show them my hand.  For most of the ones who ask, they take a moment to let it sink in and consider it.  That makes me smile.

One fellow asks, but he’s always trying to respond with something clever.  But, he still asks to see it.  And, sometimes, he says, “I like that one.”

Some customers notice it.  A few ask what it says, and I show it to them.  Often, they fret that it’s a tattoo.  I assure them it’s just pen, and I write something new each day.

Yesterday, I had a couple ask about it, and they said they really appreciated it.  “Especially right now,” the gentleman said.

Later, a woman spotted it and inquired, so I showed it to her and explained my practice.  “That’s so true.  I really like that!” she said.  And, when she left, she said, “I can’t wait to see what you have the next time I see you!”

Doing what I know to do.  Even little things like a message on my hand.
