Welcoming a New Winter’s Day, Dear Creator –

All the yards I looked down upon over the summer, admiring their rich, vibrant greens and other colors – they’ve all transformed to black-and-white, a snow and ice covered landscape.

I worked with a great crew in the store yesterday, and we handled some of our busiest business of the year with friendliness, efficiency, and teamwork.  Some colleagues were folks I had trained, and the whole team has been working together throughout this season.  I think I’ve had a positive influence on how we all conduct ourselves, and treat the customers and each other.

It was a good day that filled me up and brightened my spirit.  I’ll admit – I wasn’t sure that would be possible.  I am appreciative.

I absolutely believe that a big part of that was aided by my writing yesterday morning, the getting out and then letting go of some of the frustrations and struggles I had.  That clearing helped me start fresh and open for the new day, optimistic about the possibilities.

Here’s the thing, Dear One – for me, too, it takes a conscious effort to let things go.  I’m often not completely successful.  But, any time I don’t even try; every time I’m holding on to struggle – I am closed to receiving.

When I let go, and hold myself open to receive, I create that opportunity.

I may not receive something every time.  And, some people use that as an argument against remaining open.  Because, we feel vulnerable, holding ourselves open.  And, it can be disappointing when we don’t receive.

But, that’s just some of that same old, backwards logic.  Stay closed, so that you’re never hurt by being open but not receiving.  When, in the end, that just guarantees that you will never receive.

This is why I ask the question – “What do you want?”  If you want to receive, then you need to open yourself up.  You need to trust three things – you are strong enough to being open and not receiving; it’s always better than being closed and never receiving; and, in the end, you will be amazed by all that you receive.

Dear One, I offer you this Prompt:

Name one thing, Dear One, which you are holding on to, but that does not serve you.

I ask you to meditate, finding a space of stillness and peace.  Imagine some physical representation of the thing you are holding – maybe a stone, a written letter, or perhaps a snake you struggle to grasp in order to gain control.

See yourself holding this thing with a closed fist, and notice how you are unable to catch anything else that may come your way.

Imagine opening your fist and letting your object drop from your hand.  How does that feel, physically, in your body?

Now, see yourself with your palms held open and upwards to receive.  Imagine a lovely warm rain falling into your open palms.  Then, feel the rays of the sun warm and dry your palms.  Imagine a bird or butterfly float down and land in your open hands.

Such is the feeling of receiving.  Create your opportunity.

We must always let go, and leave space to receive, to allow ourselves new possibilities.  So grateful for this lesson, My Dear Guides!
