Another New Wave, Dear Universe!

Clouds fill this morning’s sky, deep and thick, blocking out the rising sun.  There’s no breeze, and the slightest haze hangs at the treetops.

Adventures, Dear One.  Journeys, not only of body, but of mind, and spirit.

Picture yourself standing on the shore, watching wave after wave carry toward you, rolling up the shoreline at your feet.  From where did those waves come?  Where did they begin?  What more exists in this wonderful world?

We marvel at the glimpses we catch of the wonders of the world; yet, we often are our own jailors, forbidding ourselves of adventuring out to explore, to try, to live more, bigger, and sweeter.

“I can’t fly overseas.  I can’t relocate across country.  I can’t quit this job.  I can’t be tied down in a relationship.  I can’t get divorced.  I can’t work here the rest of my life.  I can’t exercise or lose weight.  I’m not smart enough.  I can’t quit smoking.  I can’t be alone and single the rest of my life.  I’m too old.  I can’t stay here.  I can’t draw.  I can’t sing.  I’m not funny.”

Can’t, can’t, can’t.

I remember talking with my life coach and voicing for the first time out loud my concerns with my drinking.  He listened, and when I was finished, he simply asked, “So, what are you gonna do?”

I said, “I guess I need to stop drinking.”  But, in my head, I kept thinking, “I can’t.  I can’t.  What if I can’t?  You know what that means.”

My coach, Mike, also suggested that I substitute a new behavior in its place.  I remember thinking, “Oh, something like running, but I’m not a runner.  I can’t run.

I started to say that, but he jumped in as soon as he heard “running,” and he thought that was a great idea.  I tried to explain that it couldn’t be running, because I had tried it before, and I wasn’t a runnerI couldn’t run.

He asked me if I was willing to just try.  With stopping my drinking, and with running – to just try.

And, you know what?  In both cases, and so many more since, I discovered that those things I was telling myself that “I can’t do” – I could!  Just by trying, I destroyed the false belief.

Just one moment, then the next.  Not drinking one day, then the next.  Running one step, then the next.

A miraculous transformation happened, in both cases; but, it didn’t come about requiring a star to explode, or some other massive power of the Universe.

It just took a little will, a little hope, and a little daring.

My brain shouting, “You CAN’T; you CAN’T; you CAN’T!” and trying anyway.

That is the beginning of so many of our journeys of body, mind, and spirit.

We see the world, and others in the world, and we think, “Wow!  How do they do that?”

And, the answer is Always – They TRY.  They tried it.  They dared to try it.  Even when society and their brains were telling them that they couldn’t, they dared to try anyway.

“You can’t fly.  You can’t run a marathon.  You can’t run for President.  You can’t graduate.  You can’t sing.  You can’t run your own business.  You can’t write a book.  You can’t last.  You can’t find love.  You can’t be happy.  You can’t make a difference.”

When people have believed that they weren’t capable, they dared to try anyway.

To be clear – not everybody accomplishes what they try to do.  If we did, we would never develop determination, resolve, and resiliency.  It’s so important not to get caught up in the allure of results.

To be sure – the true success is in daring to try.

There’s such life in trying.  That’s our fuel; our raison d’etre.

It’s not only about success.  Sometimes, we love the trying and the doing so much, we keep coming back.  Or, even if we discover that what we tried just isn’t our thing, we still have the satisfaction of daring to try.

And, here’s a Prompt for you:

Dear One, do yourself a favor.  Make a list of Your CAN’Ts.  Take five minutes and see how many things you can write down that you tell yourself you are just not capable of doing.  Especially if they are things you wish you could do.

Then, either pick one item on the list and just go do it, or contact me, and I will bet you a half-hour conversation with me, that we will get you out, crossing off more than one item on your list.

Transforming CAN’T into CAN!  It’s about tearing up your Old Rules.  It feels like magic, but it’s as basic as one foot in front of the other.  Thanks for this Message of Transformation, Dear Guides!
