Sunrise Pages July

Here’s to the New Day, Compassionate Universe!

It’s a gray morning, overcast and still.  It looks like the temperature isn’t going to move much in the next two days from where it is right now, which is about 60°F.

I’m not sure what I’m to write this morning; I’m not getting much of a pull in any direction.  So, I’ve opened the window to better hear the birdsongs around me.  The cool air feels good.

I co-led a kayak tour last evening with VINS, and one thing I learned from their naturalist is that, in the next month or so, there will be a chance to hear what I believe he termed “juvenile whispers.”  This is when the young birds that hatched earlier this year separate themselves into their own space, and then, in hushed tones, practice their birdcalls.

So, for birders who are able to identify birdcalls, they will hear fainter, imperfect versions of known calls.  These are likely juveniles practicing their calls in order to learn them, important for such things as mating.

There’s something profound, to me, in the idea of a bird needing to practice and learn its song.  How about that?  What’s more natural than a bird singing its song – and yet, even that takes effort, concentration, and practice.

I find that a comforting fact.  Part of me is surprised – you mean, songbirds aren’t just born singing their “right” song?  But, another part of me finds resonance in this, and thinks – Ah, of course!  Even the bird’s songs, so natural and identifiable, takes deep practice to master.

How so, then, that with which I am called to do?

Imagine if the juveniles didn’t try, weren’t willing to practice; if they just thought, “It’s too hard, I’ll never get it.”

What a quieter, emptier, less magical place the World would be.

Dear One, please consider this Prompt:

Sing Your Song, Share Your Voice –

The only way to get more clear and confident about who you are and what matters to you is by the deep practice of creative expression.

Put your voice out in the World; share your message.

Find your way to creatively express yourself – art, song, story-telling; or, maybe community-building or your focus on family.

Just be willing to practice and be imperfect, on the Path to Your Purpose.

Dear Guides, thank you for all the Songs in the World, and helping me find mine!
