Om, Grand Universe!

Fog earlier, and now the sun is shining.  It’s to be another warm day, with another chance of afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms.

It’s my day off, and I’m being human, struggling with how to spend my day: there are the items I’d like to do to get them done, the things I’d have fun doing as recreation and practice, and then just holding some space for recovery and healing.

Heck, that’s most people’s struggle, in a nutshell – isn’t it?  There’s the stuff we want to do to maintain and improve our quality of life; there’s the stuff we want to do because it’s fun and gives us moments of joy and contentment; and then there is the space for rest, introspection, and healing, that recharges our spirit.

I was thinking about what I wrote yesterday, which I still have to type up and share.  There’s that question – am I qualified to teach when I myself am still learning?  I asked that yesterday regarding being a paddle instructor this summer, when I myself am so new to the sport.

I have some vulnerability around that question, concerned that I may not meet the expectations of some people.

If you’ve been reading my posts for a while, you know I’m about authenticity, about not posing to try and gain others’ approval.

This is the same thing – right?  Some people may want to learn from an absolute expert.  Sometimes, though, the expert can’t relate to your struggles, and what you’re feeling as you try to tackle new skills.

Going Up in ItalyI’m just not a coach who talks down to you from the mountaintop.  For the most part, I’m a guy on the same path; maybe a little bit ahead, facing the same bumps and roadblocks, completely understanding the discomfort and challenge of forging ahead into the unknown, offering strategies and encouragement.

I strive to show up, each day and each moment, as honest and open as I can be.  In my coaching, working, instructing, friendships – in my living – I do my best to offer my best.

And, frankly, I think that is something I am very good at achieving.  I model honest effort and enthusiasm; I demonstrate courage, risk, and exploration into the unknown worlds of new thoughts and activities.

I coach and lead trailblazers, risk-takers, and adventurers.  Together, we explore beyond our known boundaries, with curiosity and a playful spirit.

No one can live their life a “wrong” way.  There are just different paths that lead different places.  Sure, sometimes we don’t like where we are; but, sometimes going through those places that we didn’t want to be can be the only way to get to our most memorable, magical places.

Oh – and here’s another way of thinking about any of us “not being expert enough” to teach others.  That can be a common lizard fear tactic – the “I’m not ready” delay.  Diving in and offering what we have to give, right now, can be exactly what another needs, compared to offering nothing because we tell ourselves “I’m not good enough yet; I’m not ready.”

Bring and share what you have to offer, do your best, and have faith that true magic will happen when you share your open heart with others.

Now is the perfect time for that.

My Prompt for you:

Hug yourself today – Sit in stillness, and remind yourself “I am well.  I am safe.  I reside in peace and happiness.”

Sit until you feel that place of well-being, safety, and peace within you.  Notice it radiating from you.

Know that even this radiating consciousness is something that you are ready and able to share with others.

Good Night, Dad

Whether hitting golf balls, paddling, or rediscovering Our Purpose, I have a Light and Love to share.  Thank you, My Spirit Guides!  Thank you, and Good Night, Dad!
