sat chit anandaThe other day I talked about beginning a new 21-Day Mantra Meditation Journey.  With my post, I shared a fascinating video that shows how water responds to the Gayatri Mantra.

I’ve been continuing on My Mantra Journey and playing with articulating the sensations I am experiencing.

I play the trumpet, and back in my school days, I played in the band.  So, there was the training and practicing I did to become proficient on my instrument.  This meant building skill on the trumpet, but also rehearsing my specific part in the score of the band’s music.  Likewise, each member brought her/his own skill and preparation.  We would then rehearse together, to integrate each member’s sound into the whole.

Here’s the aha I’ve had about the sensations I experience when I’m chanting mantras: every band, before they perform together, get in tune.  We would tune our instruments to one pitch.  And, when I’m chanting, I get that same feeling, that visualization of all my cells vibrating harmonically, of every cell in my body being in tune with every other cell.

Have you experienced musicians tuning up?  When an instrument is out of tune with the pitch, there is an oscillation that you hear, but I swear I got so I could feel and almost see it.  As the pitches get closer in tune, the oscillation slows, until finally the instrument is in tune with the pitch–and there is a stillness.

As one who seeks stillness, being in tune, cellularly or spiritually, sounds good to me!
